Teaching

I take a student-centered, active learning approach to teaching. I believe that students learn best when they are fully engaged in the learning process. Lessons are most impactful when students engage in exercises that mirror the challenges in the real-world, experience aha moments when being debriefed, reflect on the successes and mistakes, and take away tools that they can directly apply when encountering similar problems in the workplace.

Managing Organizational Behavior

University of California, Irvine

As part of the core curriculum for undergraduate business majors, this course builds knowledge and understanding of the key issues regarding how to manage people in an organizational context. Using experiential exercises, videos, and discussions, I illustrate how to motivate and engage people, how to make decisions as an individual and in a team, how one’s position in a social network affects the information they have access to, and how to persuade and lead people you work with.

I taught Managing Organizational Behavior at the University of California, Irvine, which earned me an Outstanding PhD Instructor Award for the undergraduate program in 2021.

Strategic Management

Washington State University

This course integrates functional knowledge and apply strategic management frameworks to enhance organizational performance. The fundamental question of strategy is:  Why are some firms more successful than others? Using business simulations, case studies, hands-on projects, and interactive discussions, this course helps students to systematically analyze the external environment of the firm, internal resources and capabilities, and design strategies for businesses and corporations.

I have taught this course in both in-person (Pullman campus) and online (Global campus) modalities at Washington State University.
