About

Welcome! My name is Lily Zhu. I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management, Information Systems, and Entrepreneurship at Washington State University’s Carson College of Business. I received my Ph.D. in Organization and Management from the Paul Merage School of Business, University of California, Irvine.

The central question that drives my research is how people’s emotional experiences—and their efforts to manage them—influence workplace outcomes. The first stream of my research focuses on how entrepreneurs and employees can strategically manage their emotions to enhance performance and wellbeing. The second stream of my research examines the downstream consequences of emotions in management and entrepreneurship. My research has been published in outlets such as Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Business Venturing, and Journal of Management. My research also won the Best Paper Award and the Distinguished Paper Award from the Academy of Management annual meeting.

I am also passionate about teaching. I have taught Organizational Behavior at UC Irvine and the Strategic Management capstone course at Washington State University. I won the Outstanding PhD Instructor Award for the undergraduate program at the Paul Merage School of Business.

Prior to graduate school, I earned my bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University with double major in psychology and economics. I also conducted research at the Institute for Applied Economics, Global Health, and the Study of Business Enterprise at Johns Hopkins University and worked at a consulting firm in Washington D.C.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, singing, and creative writing.
